A Rich History of Service
In the early sixties, the parents of John R. Phillips owned and operated a family style restaurant in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania. After his father took ill, John began to help his mother with the restaurant—picking up food and other supplies in the downtown Pittsburgh area. By 1970, John was seeing serious business potential in building a family-owned supply service. Having realized that family-owned businesses liked the idea of dealing with family-owned suppliers, he went ahead and rented warehouse space in the neighboring town of Bethel Park, PA, and started Fountain Products. Dealing in paper goods and cleaning supplies at the time, Fountain thrived off of the fact that its high regard for the family-owned business resonated with local restaurant and supply store owners. By 1975, John had added a sizable inventory of utensils, cooking and preparation equipment to his warehouse. In addition to supplying restaurants, he began designing and providing consultation for the food service industry.
